Course objectives

The aim of the Course is to provide knowledge of the rational bases of neuropharmacological therapy and the clinical applications of drugs acting on the nervous system. At the end of the Course, the Student will be able to evaluate and describe the general properties of drugs acting on the central nervous system, providing their possible clinical applications, taking into consideration chemical structure, mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics and connections between pharmacological effects and adverse drug reactions.

Mechanisms of action, side effects, pharmacological interactions, pharmacokinetics and clinical use drugs acting on the nervous system.

Knowledge of the main determinants of variability in responses to drugs acting on the nervous system.

The Student should be able to understand the rational bases for the clinical use of drugs, predicting the pharmacological effects both from diagnostic/therapeutic and toxicological point of view.

In particular, the learning outcomes will be:

the Student will be able to learn and understand the topics of the Neuropsychopharmacology program

  • Applying knowledge and understanding

the Student will be able to apply the knowledge and to understand neuropsychopharmacology with diagnostic, preventive and curative purposes

the Student will be able to develop a good judgment and analysis autonomy on pharmacological problems

the Student will be able to develop good communication skills and suitable language properties in the didactic field

  • Learning skills

the Student will be able to develop functional organizational and learning skills in future institutional settings.

Course delivery

To achieve the educational objectives, the Course will provide lectures with a strong interactive component and use of multimedia tools (ppt presentations and/or videos).

Learning assessment methods

Learning will be verified by means of a written exam on the entire program during the same session. The written test will be structured on the basis of 21 multiple choice questions (1.5 points for each correct answer; wrong answers will have a penalty of -0.5). Questions will be provided through the Moodle platform

The time for the test is 20 minutes.
