Course objectives
The student must acquire adequate theoretical and practical knowledge in Otolaryngology and Audiology fields, for adult and pediatric age. The competencies must concern the anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and clinic of the ear, the nose, the salivary glands, the oral cavity and oropharynx, the larynx and hypopharynx.

Results of learning outcomes
At the end of the course the students have the fundamentals of the topographical anatomy of the head-neck district, except for the brain; of infectious, inflammatory, oncological, traumatological and malformative diseases of the above district. In more detail, the students must have specific knowledge on clinical case, semeiological data, diagnostic imaging and principles of medical and/or surgical therapy.

Program
Elements of anatomy-physiology of nose and paranasal sinues, nosebleeds, deformities and deviations, inflammatory and allergic diseases, tumors, sinusitis. Salivary glands: salivary calculosis and inflammatory-oncogical diseases. Pharynx: elements of anatomo-physiology and semeiotics, acute and chronic diseases of nasopharynx, nasopharynx tumors. Acute and chronic diseases of the oropharynx: pharyngitis, tonsillitis, angina, complications of flogosis oro-pharyngeal (phlegmon and peritonsillar abscesses, retropharyngeal and lateropharyngeal abscesses), tumors of the oropharynx. Anatomo-physiology of larynx, dyspnea, dysphonia, dysphagia. Acute and chronic laryngitis, laryngeal paralysis, benign laryngeal neoformations (nodules, polyps, Reinke edema, granulomas, amyloidosis, cysts), precancerous laryngeal lesions, laryngeal tumors. Indications to tracheotomy and surgical technique. Anatomo-physiology of phonations and laryngeal semeiotics, dyskinesia, dyslalias, dysarthria, language delays, re-educations of severe hearing loss, re-education of laryngectomies. Physiology and pathology of swallowing. Taste and olfctory function and pathologies. OSAS. Paralysis of the facial nerve.
