Organ Donation and Transplantation Desk
The San Luigi Gonzaga hospital has recently opened an Organ Donation and Transplantation Desk. At the desk, you will be able to find out more about organ and tissue donation and transplantation. If you so wish, you will be able to declare your intent to donate.
You can find the desk at the Coordinamento, donazioni e trapianti (CODOT) premises, which are located within the San Luigi Gonzaga hospital. Directions are available at the hospital main entrance.
In two months of activity, the desk has registered declarations of intent from 50 people, including employees, patients and regular citizens. In Piedmont, people can register their intent to donate in three hospitals, but the Organ Donation and Transplantation desk at the San Luigi Gonzaga hospital is the only one which directly adds to the Ministry of Health national register.

Luigi hospital:
- 6 cornea donations and 3 femoral head donations in 2023 (and counting)
- 64 cornea donations in 2022
- 31 femoral heads from living donors during hip replacement surgeries in 2022
- 486 cornea donors since 2000
- 40 organ donors since 2000

The CODOT healthcare staff will provide you with accurate information on organ and tissue donation and transplantation and will clarify any doubts you may have.
Please note that you can also add your declaration of intent in the following alternative ways:
- by visiting the registry offices of the municipalities where your identity card was issued or renewed
- by visiting your Local Healthcare Authority branch (ASL)
- by filling out the form available on the Italian Association for Organ Donation (AIDO) website.
You may change or cancel your choice at any time.
Please also note that the National Register is accessible by healthcare professionals only after one’s death, and solely for the purpose of checking the will of the deceased person with regard to organ and tissue donation and transplantation.
